February’s First Friday
I did a live event painting of Lansdale’s First Friday using oil paint on an 18″ X 24″ canvas. It took me a while to figure out how to transport my studio into a public space, I think I need a hand truck to make this task a bit easier. I was assigned a location right near the door of the Kid’s Zone at the Lansdale YMCA but once I was set up, I realized I would be unable to see the action so I took initiative and found a better spot. No one seemed to mind having to be closer to the entrance. I had such a positive response from the children there. The most common exclamation I heard was “Wow, look an artist!” Children were amazed that I was an artist and had so many questions about what I do. I took time to answer everyone’s questions as I painted them. This is was the most fun I had in a while.
An article was even written about it by Keith Heffintrayer and professional photos taken by Kristen McMaster! Pictures and article are here. I had a great time and I’m looking forward to more opportunities to do live event paintings. I will do the next First Friday for sure.
